EMTP Model for Analysis of Distributed Generation Impact on Voltage Sags

Small generation units connected to distribution systems can improve end-user power quality; e.g. by providing voltage support. However, the presence of distributed generation (DG) changes the radial nature of distribution systems and affects the performance of the protection system. DG can also affect duringand post-fault voltages; in addition, voltage sags are highly influenced by the type of protective devices and the coordination between them. This paper is aimed at exploring the impact that DG can have on voltage sags characteristics at distribution levels when the main cause of voltage sags can be either at a transmission or a distribution network.
